    PE Statement of Intent

At St Oswald’s CE Primary School, our intent is to provide a high-quality Physical Education curriculum that inspires all pupils to develop a lifelong love of physical activity, sport and healthy living. Through a broad, balanced and inclusive curriculum, we aim to ensure that every child has the opportunity to inspire, embrace and succeed.

We strive to inspire pupils to be active, confident and motivated learners by providing engaging and enjoyable experiences across a wide range of sports and physical activities. We encourage children to embrace challenge, teamwork, resilience and sportsmanship, developing not only their physical competence but also the personal qualities needed to flourish both within and beyond school.

Our PE curriculum is carefully planned to build knowledge, skills and understanding progressively from the Early Years through to Year 6. We are committed to ensuring that all pupils, regardless of background, ability or need, can succeed and achieve their full potential. Through high-quality teaching, regular participation, competitive opportunities and enrichment experiences, pupils develop the confidence to lead healthy, active lives and make informed choices about their physical wellbeing.

As a Church school, we promote respect, perseverance, fairness and inclusion in all aspects of PE. We believe that physical education plays a vital role in developing the whole child and contributes significantly to pupils’ physical, social, emotional and mental wellbeing.

At St Oswald’s, we want every child to leave primary school with the knowledge, skills and enthusiasm to inspire others, embrace opportunities and succeed in an active future.
